When upgrading from MCU1 to MCU2 AM, FM, and XM radio are lost. The upgrade does not include the digital tuner that MCU2 needs to replace the analog tuner that MCU1 uses.
Most factory radios have at least 2 antenna ports for better radio signal fusion. More advanced stereos may feature 3-4 antenna inputs, antennas with built in amplifiers or special antenna module connected via UTP/MOST. These kind of stereos usually provide the best in class AM/FM/DAB/HD Radio reception available for the particular vehicle.

In any event, most EU countries are migrating to DAB+ since they never made comprehensive rollouts of DAB in the first place. DAB+ radios are backwards compatible with DAB, I doubt it’s even possible to get DAB
175. Phoenix. Jan 8, 2021. #19. There was a group of early builds that had problems with the FM radio. FM radio stopped working The FM module had to be replaced. Mine was replaced in November 2019. I am on version 2020.48.12.1 and it is working fine.
Sure, except FM radio is kinda necessary for emergency situations in Europe as we are transitioning to DAB. But that’s beside the point, the point is that owners do have working FM before the upgrade, and it’s the upgrade breaking that for them. Using the same logic, Tesla could say that the ICU screen is not compatible with the new MCU (which it actually isn’t), remove it during upgrade
Each Tesla model comes with DAB radio and Spotify streaming access with the connection to 4G. This touchscreen feature is still under wraps, as an FM radio option and other music options, such as Apple Music, are still not included. Music services are able to be displayed at the same time as the navigation map and rear-view camera.
Unfortunately, Tesla does not offer SiriusXM for the Model 3 or Model Y. Model 3/Y owners have to either use their phone’s Bluetooth, install a hardwired receiver, or settle with Spotify. Tesla considers SiriusXM-dedicated hardware a premium feature. That’s why it’s only available in their top-of-the-line vehicles—the Model S and the The first choice, listening to the radio, is pretty straightforward. With Tesla, you can listen to AM/FM radio. If you can’t access your station via the Radio function in Tesla, you can try TuneIn too. You can stream music in your Tesla as long as you have a data connection, such as if you’re connected to WiFi, or you have Premium If he were to enable the flag to have the FM radio be visible in the UI while I installed the new tuner and plugged in the harness, he could be fired. Without root access on MCU2 we can't enable FM radio. I have offered to pay $1000 for Tesla to OFFICIALLY flip the bit from 1 to 0 and they would not do it. A broadcast relay station, also known as a satellite station, relay transmitter, broadcast translator (U.S.), re-broadcaster (Canada), repeater ( two-way radio) or complementary station (Mexico), is a broadcast transmitter which repeats (or transponds) the signal of a radio or television station to an area not covered by the originating station. As far back as 2017, rumors have circulated that Elon Musk’s tech-car company would remove radio. That fear proved to be overblown for the Tesla 3, but this time, it appears Tesla is indeed moving in a radio-less direction. The 2020 Tesla Model 3, for example, does not offer AM radio, according to Car and Driver. You can not get it with the all glass roof. Also if you just like commercial free music (why I have XM in my cars) the streaming radio built into the Tesla is great. No commercials and even cuts out the DJ chatter you get on XM. There is also no trial like in most cars because XM doesn’t really partner with Tesla. Tesla’s streaming service, powered by TuneIn, comes pre-installed in your Model 3 and offers access to a multitude of radio stations, podcasts, and audiobooks. The service is free for the first year, and after that, you’ll need a premium connectivity subscription to continue using it.
My nearly ten year old VW has HD Radio with station logos, album art for each song and artist plus track title info on stations that broadcast that info. All of that information is included in the broadcast stream, so it's up to the radio receiver to decode it and display it. Looking back through earlier threads on the Model S forum years ago

Worse on FM radio with constant static. All other audio sources have intermittent dropouts of about 1 second every 20 seconds or so. I've also noticed an increased latency between pushing the stop/start scroll button and the effect (e.g. push button and effect occurs about 1-2 seconds later). Many EVs have abandoned the radio band, while others—like the Ford F-150 Lightning—did include it but will soon cease to. Tesla evidently gave up on terrestrial AM in the Model S circa
DFW, TX. Mar 16, 2018. #31. For all of you suggesting AM via FM simulcast or FM "HD" digital sub-channel, this might work for listening to sports/talk radio in most areas, but this does nothing to solve the problem of traveler information stations on AM, or cases where an area is too remote for FM but AM still works.
